My name is Augusto Sales and I recently rejoined academia after more than 20 years in consulting at Deloitte and KPMG advising a variety of large multinational and domestic groups, private equity investors, family-owned business, start-ups, nonprofits and the public sector on their most pressing challenges particularly around problem solving, strategy development, growth and value creation, business transformation, mergers, acquisitions and joint-ventures (M&A), organization design and governance.

Today, I am interested in bridging academic thinking and real-world practice. My primary research and teaching interests are related to strategic management (particularly mergers, acquisitions and joint ventures), corporate governance and social systems theory (as postulated by the German sociologist Niklas Luhmann). Due to my history in consulting, I am starting to look into consulting and professional services firms with scientific eyes.

If you are interested, a more detailed bio is available at Vita.

This website broken down into four sections.

  • The first, Writings, includes links to recent publications, things I have written and continue to write. My research and teaching interests include strategic management (especially mergers and acquisitions), social systems theory (particularly as postulated by Niklas Luhmann) , management consulting and corporate governance.
  • The second, Hexplan, is a work in progress project to reduce what I learned professionally in strategy consulting, as a researcher professor and avid reader of professional and scientific literature on strategy, management and business into a six-faced systems inspired problem solving framework to help organizations to think strategically and design models of transformational initiatives to mobilize the organization and create sustainable competitive advantage.
  • The third, Posts, are random thoughts, news clippings and other materials directly or indirectly linked to my teachings, academic and professional activities blended with my personal interest for many subjects at the same time.
  • The fourth, Icebox, includes a backlog of ideas that I am not going to work on any time soon (and I might want them in future) and other materials that do not fit into the first three categories.

Hexplan is an ongoing open source project to reduce what I have learned professionally in more than 20 years of consulting experience, as a research professor and avid reader of professional and scientific literature on strategy, innovation, management and business in a systemic problem-solving framework composed of six verticals that allow organizations to think strategically, create consensus and conceive impact moves and transformational initiatives to mobilize people and create sustainable competitive advantage.
